If you head out to Myakka River State Park right now, you'll be greeted by a golden sea of coreopsis, or tickseed. One of 12 coreopsis species native to Florida, tickseed is naturally occurring in prairies, the edges of cypress swamps, wet pinelands and roadside ditches, which is why it thrives in the park. Its sunshine-yellow flowers are a favorite of pollinators, particularly butterflies.
