A Skyward Surge in Passenger Traffic
In 2024, SRQ welcomed a 4,245,686 passengers, a slight decrease over 2023. Passenger numbers skyrocketed by almost 234 percent since 2018, when the airport served just 1.3 million passengers.
Growing Terminals
To accommodate all those new travelers, SRQ embarked on a $115 million terminal expansion in March 2023. The crown jewel of this endeavor, Concourse A, opened in January. The 75,300-square-foot addition boasts a four-lane security checkpoint and five boarding gates, all leased by Allegiant Air. Travelers can also now savor local flavors at new dining spots like Anna Maria Oyster Bar and Patricks 1481.
New Airlines and Destinations
SRQ's airline roster has expanded from six carriers in 2018 to 11. Nonstop destinations have also increased, growing from 12 in 2017 to 68. Allegiant Air plans to offer flights to 35 destinations this year, solidifying its position as SRQ’s largest carrier during its busiest snowbird months in the winter.
Boosting the Local Workforce
In total, the airport and its services employ 23,009 workers.
Investments in Infrastructure
SRQ isn't just expanding its terminals. Recent projects include tripling the size of its jet fuel storage facility, enlarging the screening checkpoint by 33 percent and adding more parking lots. Ongoing developments include a new ground transportation center and upgraded baggage handling systems, all designed to accommodate future growth.
Financials Flying High
In its 2023 fiscal year, the airport reported net revenue of nearly $10.9 million, with projections for net revenues of $11.7 million in 2024 (because of the airport’s fiscal calendar, the total for 2024 is still being audited and finalized) and $12.3 million in 2025.
Winning Awards
The Florida Department of Transportation named SRQ its Commercial Service Airport of the Year in 2022, applauding its achievements in aesthetics, safety and management.
The Sky's the Limit
With all of its ongoing projects and planning, SRQ aims to accommodate as many as 8 million passengers annually by 2050.
