Prior to becoming Chair, Compton grew up in the Sarasota community. She earned her B.A. from the University of Florida and her J.D. with honors from Cumberland School of Law of Samford University. Compton has over 25 years of practicing employment law and litigation. She is a Florida Board Certified Labor & Employment attorney.

When not practicing law, Compton enjoys raising her family and supporting Sarasota, the community where she grew up and met and married her high school sweetheart. She is particularly proud of her involvement as Chair, executive committee member, and board member for The Bay Park Conservancy, which is building One Park for All on 54 acres of city-owned land on the Sarasota Bayfront (pictured here) and is seen by many as the single largest undertaking to impact Sarasota for the next 50-100 years. “As a child, I rode a yellow school bus to the purple Van Wezel to see a show and ate lunch after on a yellow parking curb in a black top parking lot. Forty years later, kids are still on the yellow bus to the purple building eating lunch on orange parking curbs in a black top parking lot. We can do better for our kids and community. I am thrilled to play a small part in helping transform these 54 acres into an open, accessible blue green oasis in the middle of Sarasota,” says Compton.
