MISSION: Cultivating positive and meaningful relationships between our deputies and our youth.
- Since 1989, SAL programs have provided services to hundreds of elementary, middle and high school students from Newtown to North Port.
- SAL Slogan: Our youth, our deputies, our future.
- Vision Statement: To provide our youth with safe, experiential education opportunities which allow them to explore the many diverse aspects of our communities, while developing positive relationships with deputies from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
- SAL is a registered 501(c)3.
Life can be challenging, and we all have our vulnerable moments.
The consequences of our choices are sometimes unclear…the seas of life can be murky. Regardless of their life circumstances, many young people, especially those of middle school age, often find themselves struggling to avoid stormy seas with no wind in their sails, no land in sight, no rudder, map, or compass.
From Newtown to North Port, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office deputies who facilitate SAL programs strive to identify these young people, and provide resources, guidance and mentorship to help navigate them toward safe waters. Visits to local destinations help establish connection to the community, and our experiential education/hands-on activities foster effective communication, problem-solving and critical thinking skills while having fun.
The opportunity for our young people to share these experiences with deputies of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is a feature that truly distinguishes SAL from other youth programs. SAL deputies are mentors, guides, big brothers/sisters, tutors, teachers, cops and friends to our youth.
