Bravo! to Our November Incredible Kid!

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County and Replay Outreach applaud an extraordinary local kid.

Presented by Sarasota Magazine December 9, 2020

Bravo to Matrick, Sarasota Magazine’s November Incredible Kid! Matrick is a 13-year-old cellist committed to contributing to the arts and culture of Sarasota-Manatee. He is a member of local nonprofit organizations Strings Con Brio and The Pops Orchestra and performs with the Venice Community Orchestra.

In the summer of 2019, he organized Hello Cello, a 20-minute interactive program for kindergarten students hosted by the Selby Public Library and Braden River Library. Together, Matrick and these students explored the sounds of the cello and created compositions using the music alphabet. To reach people through music during the pandemic, Matrick joined The Pops Orchestra for a virtual performance of a patriotic medley for Independence Day. He also took part in the virtual project Musicians of the World, which featured student musicians from around the globe performing “The Prayer.”

Matrick has written four award-winning plays through the Write a Play program hosted by Florida Studio Theatre. He is an 8th grade honors student at Pine View School, where he is a member of the National Junior Honor Society and Student Council and a cellist in the orchestra.

The Community Foundation of Sarasota County will award a grant in Matrick’s name to Strings Con Brio, a fully volunteer community string orchestra where Matrick is a featured cellist.

Matrick deserves a standing ovation for being such a remarkable kid!
