In Sarasota and Manatee counties, the weekend’s “No Kings” demonstrations felt like a regional roll call. Organizers said 3,008 people attended a rally at University Town Center, while in downtown Sarasota, the local Democratic Party estimated approximately 9,000 people attended a gathering at Payne Park and along U.S. 301. Meanwhile, down in Venice, organizers estimate another 6,000 people came out, and an additional protest was also held in Englewood, extending the movement’s footprint across South County.

The mood was expansive, drawing people of all ages and roadside crowds waving colorful signs and flags, and passing cars honking their support.

The atmosphere on the Suncoast was the same atmosphere seen across the country, where more than 3,300 "No Kings" rallies took place in all 50 states, from small towns to major urban centers. The focus wasn't single-issue but rather a broad objection to the current political direction of the country. Demonstrators protested President Trump’s actions on immigration, the war in Iran, the handling of the Epstein files and what many called his "authoritarian rule." Demonstrations were also reported in other countries, including cities in Europe, Canada, Japan and Australia.
