Planned Parenthood Federation of America announced today that philanthropist MacKenzie Scott donated an unprecedented $275 million to its national office and 21 Planned Parenthood affiliates, including Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida (PPSWCF). Planned Parenthood has not shared how much of the $275 million PPSWCF will receive.

Scott's gift is the largest from a single donor in Planned Parenthood’s history. It will fund the launch of Planned Parenthood's Black Health Equality Initiative to better meet the needs of Black patients in communities where Planned Parenthood works.

Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has pledged to give the majority of her wealth back to the society that helped generate it. She has made previous donations to other Sarasota-Manatee nonprofits, including Goodwill Manasota, United Way Suncoast, Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County, Easterseals Southwest Florida and Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee.
