The Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners recently announced its strategic priorities and goals, which include water quality initiatives, capital project management, facility planning, mental health and substance abuse, destination athletic fields, and affordable housing. Other priorities discussed include advanced wastewater treatment, roadway improvements, comprehensive plan amendments, an indoor multi-use sports facility, and developing sidewalks plans that connect to schools and the Legacy Trail. The board will finalize its strategic priorities during the Jan. 11, 2022, commission meeting.

Alan Maio, District 4, was selected as chairman for 2022; Ron Cutsinger, District 5, as vice-chair; and Christian Ziegler, District 2, as pro tem. They'll hold these positions for the 2022 calendar year.
