Junior League of Sarasota Announces 'Little Black Dress Initiative'

The annual event brings focus to the restrictions that poverty places on choices, opportunities, and access to everyday resources.

By Staff November 2, 2021

The Junior League of Sarasota (JLS) has announced its annual Little Black Dress Initiative, beginning Monday, Nov. 29, and running through Friday, Dec. 3, 2021. During the week-long social media campaign, participating JLS members will wear one black dress for five consecutive days to symbolize the restrictions that poverty places on choices, opportunities, and access to everyday resources. By sharing content and photos on their social platforms, JLS members aim to harness the power of social media and drive donations for JLS's charitable efforts, which support local families, women, children, and young adults aging out of foster care.

Founded in 2014 by the Junior League of London, the Little Black Dress Initiative has since been taken on by leagues across the United States. This is the third year that JLS has participated in the campaign.
