Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast has named Candy Brooks its 2020 Big Sister of the Year and Sid Friedman its 2020 Big Brother of the Year. Brooks, of Englewood, is a Big Sister to Aaliyah; Friedman, of Sarasota, is a Big Brother to Jakobie (pictured above). The 50-year-old organization matches area youth in meaningful, enduring, professionally supported mentoring relationships with adult volunteers. The evidence-based approach is designed to create positive youth outcomes, including educational success, avoidance of risky behaviors, higher aspirations, greater confidence, and improved relationships. This past year, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast has served more than 1,800 youth across a 10-county footprint.
