New College of Florida recently hired Luis Suarez as its first director of emergency management. Suarez previously served as an emergency management officer with Manatee County government. In that position, he wrote and established the standard operating procedures for the county’s Emergency Operations Center. He was also responsible for planning and conducting two full-scale hurricane simulations, which included over 200 county and municipal personnel.
