A group of local citizens recently launched a new campaign to allow City of Sarasota voters to consider moving City Commission elections from the spring to the fall to coincide with congressional, gubernatorial and presidential elections. Called Decide the Date, the initiative is being led by Public Defender Larry Eger and former Sarasota Mayor Suzanne Atwell. The group is pushing the move because of low turnout during city elections. The change must be approved by city voters. City commissioners can place the question on a ballot or voters can take the issue into their own hands and petition the city to place the question on a ballot.
