More than 1.2 million visitors stayed overnight in a paid lodging in Sarasota County during Visit Sarasota County's most recent fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30. That number represents a 4.2 percent increase over the previous fiscal year. The 1.2 million visitors generated more than $1.9 billion in economic impact for the county, a 14.8 percent increase over the previous fiscal year. The top three places where people traveled to the area from were New York City, the Tampa Bay area and Washington, D.C.
