The new seed library

Sarasota County recently established a seed library to assist local growers. The program allows residents to check out packets of seeds at no cost; they are then asked to donate their excess seeds for others to use. The library is available at the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Sarasota County office at 6700 Clark Road, Sarasota. The library is the latest part of the county's gardens program, which aims to build communities around food, improve access to healthy produce and raise agricultural awareness. The library is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-noon Friday.
