Gov. Rick Scott's office has set the dates for the special election to replace former state Rep. Alex Miller, R-Sarasota, who recently resigned from the Florida Legislature. A special primary election, if required, will take place Tuesday, Dec. 5, followed by the special general election on Tuesday, Feb. 13. Miller's district, district 72, is contained entirely within Sarasota County. The deadline to register to be eligible to vote in the special primary is Monday, Nov. 6. Miller was first elected last November and served less than a year.
