The North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton metropolitan area ranks as the 10th most dangerous region for pedestrians in the country, according to data released Tuesday by Smart Growth America. One hundred and fifty pedestrians were killed in the region between 2005 and 2014, according to the group, leading to one of the country's highest fatality rates. Nine of the top 11 most dangerous regions are in Florida, which ranked as the most dangerous state overall.
