Seventy-three percent of Americans would support changes in land use or zoning regulations that encourage transit-oriented development, according to a national public opinion survey conducted by HNTB Corporation in May. The survey, titled “Transit Oriented Development in America,” found that 55 percent of Americans are willing to pay more for their mortgage or rent in order to live in an area where they do not need a vehicle. Millennials, in particular, are much more willing to pay more each month than older Americans: 70 percent versus 49 percent. HNTB Corporation is an employee-owned infrastructure solutions firm.
