The Manatee County Planning Commission last week voted to approve zoning changes to 358.5 acres north of Cortez Road W. in order to allow for the development of a mixed-use project that will include 1,950 residential units, 90,000 square feet of commercial space, storage space for 200 boats and a boat ramp and marina basin. The development, dubbed Peninsula Bay, will include a trail system offering access to the bay, the marina and a 60-acre internal lake, and the property will include 16 acres of parks, trails and native uplands, plus pocket parks. "The vision for Peninsula Bay is an eco-friendly waterfront fishing village and resort, building on the character of the Cortez community while integrating new vacation and living options," according to a project summary.
