Matty Appice, Port Manatee’s chief commercial officer and top trade executive, recently returned from ceremonies celebrating the expansion of the Panama Canal, touting his optimism that the historic development will benefit Port Manatee. Appice was among dignitaries from around the world who took part in events commemorating the completion of the $5.3 billion endeavor, which brings larger locks to the Panama Canal and doubles its cargo capacity. While in Panama, Appice met with numerous industry leaders, including executives of global ocean carriers, feeder service operators and shipping agencies.
