Katerina Berezina, an assistant professor of hospitality management at USF Sarasota-Manatee, last month published an article examining whether hotel “flash sales,” time-limited deep discounts on bookings, can drive revenue. Her study, “The Managerial Flash Sales Dash: Is There Advantage or Disadvantage at the Finish Line?” appeared in the April issue of the International Journal of Hospitality Management. The article concludes that quick discounts can drive revenue, but that it’s a juggling act not suited for everyone.
