Sarasota County will host two public workshops, one in Sarasota and one in Venice, on proposed changes to regulations regarding food trucks and street vendors. The county code currently requires a separation of 800 feet between a street vendor and an established restaurant, unless notarized consent is given by the restaurant operator, as well as 750 feet between individual street vendors. Food truck entrepreneurs say those rules have stifled efforts to grow their businesses. A proposed code amendment would delete both those separation requirements and make other changes to food truck rules. That amendment is scheduled to be discussed by the Sarasota County Planning Commission on Thursday, May 5. The informational workshops will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 28, in the commission chamber at the Robert L. Anderson Administration Center, 4000 S. Tamiami Trail, Venice, and at 6 p.m. Monday, May 2, in the commission chamber at the Sarasota County Administration Building, 1660 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota.
