Drum Circle Distilling has created a new series of sea life labels for its Siesta Key Toasted Coconut Rum, and the company will support Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium by donating 2 percent of all sales to an associated Mote program. The first featured animal is the sea turtle. The label will be available soon in the distillery's tasting room, 2212 Industrial Blvd., Sarasota.

The Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation recently approved more than $680,000 in grants for Sarasota Memorial Hospital and two other local health care entities. The largest grant, $475,000, will help repurpose current space to create more private rooms for patients in the East Tower. An $87,080 grant for the nursing department will go toward beatification and increased safety in its external courtyard, and the lab services department received a $75,100 grant to purchase two Bio Fire Film Array modules to help process results in-house. First Step of Sarasota, which provides addiction recovery programs, received a $20,000 grant, while the Cardiovascular Center of Sarasota received a $25,000 grant for its annual symposium.

The First Watch Sarasota Half Marathon & Relay, which takes place Sunday, March 13, has formalized a benefiting partnership with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to allow athletes to still participate and run in the sold-out race. By donating or raising at least $500 for St. Jude, runners and walkers gain entry into Sarasota’s longest running half marathon and also help St. Jude treat and defeat childhood cancer and other life0threatening diseases. On Sunday, March 13, the Suncoast Waterkeeper will join with Sierra Club and the Florida Institute for Saltwater Heritage for a brunch to raise money and awareness about threats and progress in protecting our coast. The brunch will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at the Bradenton Yacht Club, 4307 13th St. W., Palmetto, and will feature a raffle and silent auction as well as guest speakers and awards. Tickets are $50.

Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium's Party on the Pass—which supports Mote’s hospitals for sea turtles, dolphins and whales—will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 18, in the Mote aquarium courtyard. Tickets are $100. Mote's animal hospitals have rehabilitated more than 70 dolphins and whales since 1992 and more than 450 sea turtles since 1995. Purchase tickets by clicking here or by calling (941) 388-4441, ext 394.
