The poetic, gooey goodness of Eat Here's French onion soup.
By now, almost everyone in Sarasota and Manatee County has tried Eat Here, this food writer and Sean Murphy buddy included. Eat Here has by far the city’s best fish taco, though I am hearing the beef taco upstairs is a killer. I am totally into the gooey French onion soup and the clams with fries (come on now, almost worth the extra muffin top!). And Eat Here's warm pineapple ginger cake is a contender for best dessert of 2011. Don’t expect coffee with that dessert downstairs, though--but who cares? Have an espresso martini or take it to go.
Norman and RJ loved Bond.
We liked Bond's deviled eggs.
I finally made it over to Bond (formerly Citrus Café). Gotta love a place that has a grilled cheese sandwich of the day. Although I opted for something else, the homemade apple and pear jam with cream cheese sandwich of the day did sound tempting. Three deviled eggs of the day were topped with crumbled pancetta for $4. The sausage and fennel sandwich was delish, but the beet salad was just slightly disappointing. The arugula needs to be tossed in the dressing, but first make a dressing with flavor--mine came on the side and even after stirring, I tasted nothing but oil. Oh well: the creamy goat cheese tossed into the beets was very good, the iced tea was nice and fresh and the dogs loved the fresh water bowl upon arrival.
Thank you, David Freeman, concierge of the year, for taking me over to The Table. Just as good as when it first opened way back on Hillview, and the new spot on the creek is darling, with a cool Miami feel inside and a tropical paradise outside--swaying palm trees, a spectacular full moon rising and a fire pit all on the beautiful outdoor deck. There are water views everywhere--similar to a Pattigeorge's but with an outside dining option (a must in this town).
Mahi-mahi at The Table.
Ahi tuna sushi and salmon tartare were scrumptious with a flavorful bite of fried leek garnish. The nightly special of mahi- mahi (usually not our favorite fish) melted in our mouths, surrounded by house-made pumpkin ravioli and fresh snap peas in a sensual light cream sauce. Magnifico--welcome back to The Table!
