Tickets are on sale for this year's Sarasota MOD Weekend, Nov. 14-17—and the theme is "reawakening."

John Howey, author of the seminal book The Sarasota School of Architecture, used the term "the awakening" to describe the early 20th-century beginnings of the Sarasota School of Architecture, which included architects like Paul Rudolph, Ralph Twitchell, Victor Lundy, Gene Leedy, Frank Folsom Smith and Carl Abbott. MOD Weekend's theme is a play on that concept, homing in on the renewed—or reawakened—interest in the Sarasota School's architecture, the restoration of buildings like the Revere Quality House and Umbrella House, and a new generation of architects that's taking inspiration from the work of their Sarasota School forefathers, who were pioneers in sustainable, climate-adaptive design.

This year's MOD Weekend will bring back popular signature events like yoga at the Umbrella House, a Lido Shores walking tour and a Siesta Key kayak tour, among others. On Thursday, Nov. 14, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Columbia University architectural historian Dr. Barry Bergdoll will give a keynote speech that discusses the shifts in American modernism in the late 20th century.  An opening party will take place on Friday, Nov. 15, at downtown Sarasota's McCulloch Pavilion, and a design symposium—featuring three to-be-announced experts—will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Siesta Key Chapel. A brunch and panel discussion with architects continuing the principles set forth by the Sarasota School will round out the weekend on Sunday, Nov. 17.

Tickets start at $50 for children and students and $75 for adults, with package pricing available and discounts for Architecture Sarasota members. For more information and to see a full schedule of events, click here.
