Inside a Casey Key Compound That Just Sold for $10.5 Million—Cash
Despite its almost 5,000 square feet (and that’s just the main house), this Casey Key home has a cozy feeling. It’s almost shocking to see color and so much gleaming wood in this age of white and greige.
But why bother to update color schemes and cosmetics when you're selling in such a fast and furious market? Listed for $10.95 million, 1144 Sea Grape Point Road went under contract in just four days for $10.5 million—cash.
Compounded by an influx of new residents flooding the real estate market, the quick sale reflects an ongoing local trend. According to the latest numbers from the Realtor Association of Sarasota and Manatee, in March, the median time to contract in Sarasota County was five days. In March of last year, it was 13. Manatee County is seeing similar numbers.
The names of the Sea Grape Point Road buyers are still a mystery, but their new home is a waterfront compound on more than an acre overlooking Blackburn Bay, with 445 feet of bay frontage. Built in 2016, the new owners will be the home’s second-ever residents. According to Courtney Green, who represented the seller along with Melissa Caldwell, both of Premier Sotheby's, the buyers are a local couple who recently sold their home on Longboat Key and have other luxury properties in the area.
Designed by Jon Coulthurst and built by Dwayne Robinson of D.E. Robinson Construction Group, the primary home has three bedrooms and four-and-a-half-baths. A grand staircase leads into the second story, framed by wood-paneled ceilings and lots of wide water views. Custom built-ins and Mexican tiles with handmade insets add to the warm charm.
The main chef’s kitchen looks like a cherry and maple wood custom cabinet showroom, with granite countertops in an open setting, and there’s another eat-in kitchen by the guest bedrooms.
Multiple verandas overlook the bay and an outdoor area with a saltwater pool and spa, rock waterfall and slide, floating swim-out dock, kayak launch and dock offer several boat slips for accessing the Intracoastal Waterway. There's also an elevator and four-plus-car garages. Set on a private road, deeded beach access is just across the street. And at nearly 3,000 square feet, a separate guesthouse has a wraparound veranda, kitchen, living area, loft and three guest suites.
