On Easter weekend, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, Sarasota's very own E.J. Griffitts III took home the state title in the 132 lb. weight class.

The 20-year-old Griffitts is no stranger to victory. This is his third championship title. Griffitts started boxing when he was 8, after seeing Rocky with his folks. He found Jaco's Boxing Fitness, off Clark Road, and for the past 12 years has trained under coach Adam Jaco's tutelage. 

Like Sylvester Stallone's character, Griffitts has Italian roots. His parents are also from Philadelphia. Griffitts' victory means that he will now fight for the Golden Gloves National Title in May. It might feel like destiny for the young Griffitts because the title fight will be held at the home of the Italian Stallion—Philadephia, Pennsylvania.
