Sarasota County Provides Updates on Events, Chemical Collection, Library Services

The county is following CDC, Florida Department of Health and governor's office guidelines to reopen.

Sarasota County has issued an update on county services and amenities as the community continues to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. The county is following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Florida Department of Health (DOH) and Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office to reopen county spaces. Community members are urged to practice social distancing and follow CDC and DOH guidelines.

Events

All county-sponsored events and events held at county-owned or operated facilities have been cancelled through May 31.

This will be assessed on a weekly basis as the county continues to monitor the status of COVID-19 and follow the guidance of the CDC and DOH.  

Chemical Collection/Hazardous Waste

Sarasota County’s chemical collection centers will reopen with limited access, by appointment only, for hazardous waste disposal beginning on Monday, May 18.

Staff will share additional information including available collection locations during a Facebook live update on Monday, May 18 to the main account @SRQCountyGov, time TBD.

Library Services

Libraries continue to offer curbside pickup for items that have been placed on hold by library cardholders.

Staff will contact cardholders to schedule pickups when requested materials become available.

Community members interested in placing holds on books, DVDs, audiobooks or other items can do so through the library’s website at scgov.net/library or by calling (941) 861-1110.

All due dates for materials have been extended until June 1.

Beaches, Parks and Athletic Amenities

Sarasota County continues to encourage residents, viewers and listeners to practice social distancing while visiting county-owned/operated open spaces including beaches, parks, competitive leagues. Community members should continue to follow CDC and DOH guidelines for practicing safe social distancing.

Turtle Beach Campground will reopen Monday, May 18, and will operate at approximately 50 percent occupancy through May 31 and possibly longer. Email [email protected] for reservations or call (941) 861-5000;  online booking has been temporarily deactivated.

There is no status change as far as playgrounds, basketball/volleyball courts.
