Tyni Lazzaro’s Brooklyn Boutique Brings Big-City Fashion to Downtown Sarasota

Tyni Lazzaro was raised in Brooklyn, and in her early 20s, she worked at high-end retail stores in New York City like Barneys New York and Wolford. There, she began taking notes, thinking, “In my own place, I would do this.”
Lazzaro’s family moved to Sarasota 17 years ago, and when she eventually followed suit, it was here that her retail dreams came to life. Last spring, she opened Brooklyn Boutique, a South Pineapple Avenue storefront that sells women’s and men’s clothes and accessories, as well as home goods that offer a taste of New York in Southwest Florida.
The store pays tribute to its namesake borough, with a mural of a subway car and an actual turnstile that customers can walk through. But while the store’s inspo is NYC, Lazzaro and her husband, Paul, stock their racks with fabrics like cotton and linen that are perfect for Florida days and nights.
Three Items Lazzaro Loves Right Now

Funny Kitchen Towels
These printed kitchen towels ($12 each) have sayings like, “Some things are better left unsaid, which I generally realize after I have said them."

Linen Shirts for Men
Men’s linen shirts from Linen & More ($75) have a casual, effortless Italian elegance. “Linen is a good vibration fabric," Lazzaro says. "It’s very elegant—no matter what you wear, you can dress it up or wear it casually, and it’s top-notch for walking around on a sweaty day.”

Linen Pants for Women
According to Lazzaro, these Ornella Paris 100 percent linen women’s pants ($84) are very popular, especially since their elastic band accentuates the waist while still flowing out for a comfortable fit.
