Carry On

Sarasota’s BSWANKY sources python skin for its bags from snake hunters in the Florida Everglades who are trying to eradicate the invasive species. The result: a luxe handbag-cum-backpack accented with ostrich leather and nickel hardware that you can feel good about carrying. Five percent of proceeds are donated to the Southwest Florida National Parks Trust. $1,800, bswanky.com

Kurier's BFF clog

Step to It

Englewood native Jasmine Clayton's BFF clogs were inspired by her best friend's "amazing vintage clogs—25-plus years later, I can still hear her clomping around Sarasota's Southgate Mall in them," she says. She searched for a pair on eBay for years, but could never find one—so she made the shoes herself. Clayton, who now owns and operates Kurier, in Portland, Maine, handcrafts each pair of clogs from premium American and Italian leathers, adding a braided detail across the top for a unique touch. A tread on the wood sole ensures there's no slipping or sliding. $142, shopkurier.com

Support Local Biz

The pandemic dramatically affected—and continues to affect—local restaurants and shops; those that were able to remain open  were abruptly forced to pivot their operations. A gift card is an easy way to show support and invest in these businesses, which are essential threads in the fabric of our community. Take a look at our Best of Sarasota editors' and readers' picks for some inspiration. Happy shopping!
