From a meaty mushroom burger to the almost identical-to-beef Impossible and Beyond Meat plant-based patties, here are some local veggie burger options that will trick your tastebuds into thinking they're the real thing. Or perhaps they're even better than the real thing.

This burger joint has two vegetarian options. The Vegefi is a burger patty made out of crispy quinoa and roasted veggies, topped with white cheddar, lettuce and tomato on a multigrain bun. Another option is the Beyond Meat burger, a 100 percent plant-based patty topped with the usual burger fixings.

H2O Bistro at Hotel Indigo

Sarasota's Hotel Indigo bistro offers the SRQ Veggie Burger, made with seasonal vegetables, black beans and rice. Fresh lettuce, tomato and a special remoulade are served on the side.

Ionie Organic Vegan and Raw Food Café

A historic house turned vegan café near downtown, Ionie is home to a savory veggie burger made out of cremini mushrooms, sunflower seeds and a mix of herbs and spices. Served with toppings of your choice, a fluffy onion bun and side of fresh coleslaw.

Libby's Neighborhood Brasserie

Known for its French fare and popular happy hour, Libby's serves the Impossible Burger, a plant-based patty, with a twist. The "double-stack" burger is served with two patties, melted vegan cheese and a house-made cashew cream sauce on a sweet brioche bun.

This vegetarian- and vegan-friendly restaurant serves a juicy portobello mushroom burger. The patty is marinated, grilled and topped with a house-made "cheese" sauce, a pub bun and your choice of burger toppings. A filling and tasty alternative.

Shake Shack

Shake Shack's expertise may lie in real burgers, but the restaurant also knows how to treat Sarasota's vegetarians right. The 'Shroom burger is a crisp-fried portobello mushroom patty filled with melted muenster cheese and topped with crisp lettuce, tomato and Shack sauce, a tangy, ketchup-like condiment. Choose a bun or lettuce-wrap, if you're feeling extra healthy.

Typically known for its fresh seafood, Shore also offers up burgers, chicken and vegetarian options. The forest mushroom and black bean burger is topped with creamy avocado, caramelized shallots and smokey chipotle "veganaise," a mayo alternative. Served on a pretzel bun.

Smacks Burgers & Shakes

This Sarasota favorite has a "Build Your Own Burger" menu with a Beyond Meat option. A flavorful, plant-based patty is grilled up with your choice of cheese, bun and toppings. If you're searching for something more veggie-tasting, try the black bean burger, made with beans, corn and rice served with all the burger fixings.

S.O.B. Burgers

An abbreviation for "South of Bradenton," S.O.B. Burgers has more than 20 unique burger creations on the menu. And if you're not a beef lover, the Vegeburger is made for you. A house-made patty with black beans, carrots, celery, corn, kale, parsley and onions, the mixture is grilled and served with lettuce, tomato and onion on a fresh bun.

Toasted Mango Café

Toasted Mango's Zesty Veggie Burger has a mixture of black beans, corn, onion, herbs and fresh jalapeño, topped with avocado and house-made pico de gallo. Order mango slices on the side to cool down between each hot bite.

This vegetarian and seafood restaurant implements unique meat substitutes like jackfruit and cauliflower. The Veg Burger is a mixed-vegetable patty, topped with lettuce, tomato, sweet caramelized onions and creamy aioli. Or, order the Bistro Burger, a Beyond Meat patty topped with Gouda cheese, onion and a tangy horseradish sauce.
