You Need the Bahi Hut's New Commemorative Mug in Your Life
Snag yourself (or someone you love, if you’re feeling generous) a piece of Sarasota kitsch this weekend at the Bahi Hut’s Mug Release Party. Since 2017, the legendary Sarasota bar has released an annual mug representing its tiki vibe, but this year’s commission is a cut above. The mug is a stunning replica of the Bahi Hut itself.
“This year, because the Bahi Hut is turning 68, we thought, 'Let’s do a mug of the Hut,'” says owner Parth Shaha.
Local artist RoboTiki designed the mug, and fewer than 200 have been produced at the St. Petersburg ceramics shop Eekum Bookum, which specializes in tiki vessels.
Each year, a mug is released at Bahi Hut’s Tiki Fever festival, but the party was canceled this year because of Hurricane Ian. However, Shaha still wanted to release the mug to commemorate the Sarasota landmark.
Shaha anticipates that the mugs will sell out at Saturday’s event, so if you want to snag this collectible, he encourages you to show up in person at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17. And, while the $155 price tag may seem steep, the cost will be well worth it for a handmade piece of Sarasota history. Just imagine how impressive it will look on your favorite bookshelf.
Bahi Hut’s Mug Release Party starts at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 4675 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. For more information, call (941) 355-5141 or visit the bar's website.
