The one-time home of JDub's Brewing Company will reopen this spring with a new name and look. Sun King Brewery, based in Indianapolis, Indiana, will open in the space in April or May.

Sun King cofounders Dave Colt and Clay Robinson were working in separate brewing companies before they came together to create a business of their own. Named after their goal of creating seasonal beers, Sun King rolled out its first keg in 2009. At the time, Colt and Robinson had no idea whether their business would succeed.

"When you don't have a lot, you don't have a lot to lose," says Robinson. It was their passion and determination that helped spread the word about their business and gain a following across Indiana. The Sarasota location will join five Indiana Sun King breweries, and a sixth that is also in the works.

Why Sarasota? Sun King vice president of sales Joe Burns moved from Sarasota to Indiana, but after experiencing the cold, his wife decided to move the family back to the Sarasota. Due to Burns' flexible position, Colt and Robinson decided to have Burns work remotely from Sarasota. Add that to Sarasota being known as a tourist and vacation destination, and the Sun King name being fitting for the Sunshine State, it became the logical next place to mark on the map.

Sun King Brewery & Spirits will be located at 1215 Mango Ave., Sarasota. For more info, visit the brewery's website.
