Vegans and foodies, take note: Sarasota Veg Fest takes place this Sunday, Dec. 5, at Sarasota's Payne Park.

The festival, which runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., will feature several vegan and plant-based food vendors, including familiar faces like Worden Farm, Brazilian Fun Foods, Kona Ice and more. There will also be eco-friendly vendors selling wares like clothing, candles and bath products.

The Florida-based nonprofit APlantBasedDiet has partnered with Solutionary Species for the festival, which has taken place in Sarasota for three years, and in locations that include Naples, Punta Gorda and Bonita Springs. Nonprofit founder Mike Young says he expects about 2,000 people in Sarasota this weekend.

"We like to have the event outdoors and for free, so as many people can come and learn about our message of compassion, healthy eating and living," says Young.

In addition to food and live music, there will also be three keynote speakers sharing activist messages. At 1 p.m., hear from Brian Clement, who is the founder of the Hippocrates Health Institute in Palm Beach. He will share his findings on disease prevention and how his health center heals ailments naturopathically.

A remote presentation by Captain Paul Watson will take place at 2 p.m. Watson is an ocean conservationist and founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, where he traverses the rough seas near Antarctica to save whales and fight the whaling industry. His work was featured in the docuseries Whale Wars.

At 3 p.m., listen to speaker, author and educator Dr. Will Tuttle give a presentation about the benefits of plant-based living for human health and the negative consequences of the factory farming industry. His book, The World Peace Diet, has been an Amazon bestseller and has been translated into 16 languages.
