After being canceled for more than three months because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the weekly Venice Farmers Market will hit the streets again this Saturday, July 11, with a host of new safety and social distancing rules in place.

The new regulations include requiring vendors to set up 10 feet apart from one another, pavement markers to keep shoppers six feet apart and limits on how many people can enter the market, among many other measures. Each vendor will be required to each have a hand-sanitizing station, and staff must wear gloves and masks at all times.

The Venice market is the first in the area to reopen since the onset of the pandemic. Seasonal markets like the Bradenton Farmers' Market and the Phillippi Farmhouse Market remain closed until at least the fall. The downtown Sarasota Farmers Market, which normally operates year-round, is still on hold because of the coronavirus.

The Venice Farmers Market sets up near Venice City Hall, 401 W. Venice Ave., Venice, and is open 8 a.m.-noon every Saturday from the beginning of April through the end of September, and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. from the beginning of October through the end of March.
