This summer, when Sarasota's temperature and humidity spike, you'll have a sweet new spot to chill. Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams will open near the University Town Center mall later this year.

Jeni's founder Jeni Britton Bauer.

Jeni's currently has nearly 50 locations in 14 cities around the country. The shop is known for producing ice creams without egg yolks. According to Jeni's founder Jeni Britton Bauer, the company starts with raw milk from grass-fed cows, separates that into heavy cream and skim milk, then pasteurizes those in small batches before recombining them to create the ice cream base. The goal is to produce a creamy ice cream that allows the different flavorings to shine. The company's unique flavors include goat cheese with red cherries, "brandied banana brûlée," "Savannah buttermint" and more.

The company's pints have been on sale at Publix and Whole Foods Market locations for awhile, but the new scoop shop is the first Jeni's in the area. It will be located at 190 N. Cattlemen Road, Unit 4, Sarasota, right near Shake Shack. No official opening date has yet been set, but trust that we'll have the scoop (pun intended) when it is.
