For nearly 40 years, Sarasota’s Greek community has come together for the annual Saint Barbara Greek Festival. Popularly known as “Glendi,” the Greek word for party, the festival is a celebration of food and culture with roots that reach all the way back to ancient Greece. For four days, you can gorge on roasted lamb, moussaka, avgolemono soup and pitas bursting with gyro meat, plus sweets like loukoumathes—small fritters drizzled with honey and showered with cinnamon. In between courses, take in exhibitions of Greek folk dancing, browse booths of art and jewelry, and groove to the sounds of traditional Greek music. Then go back for seconds. The Saint Barbara Greek Festival runs Feb. 6-9 at Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 7671 Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota. For more info, visit stbarbarafestival.org
