Buttermilk Handcrafted Food

At Buttermilk Handcrafted Food, don't miss the updated twist on a cinnamon roll. This one is big and buttery and filled with cinnamon and sugar, but instead of the usual white frosting, it's topped with a caramel one that's flavored with cold-brew coffee. The coffee taste is subtle, but it's there, and its ever-so-slightly bitter taste saves this treat from veering into too-sweet territory. We'd eat this every morning.

All day Sunday, Italians simmer sausage, meatballs and pork in rich red sauce until everything is meltingly tender. Chianti makes its Sunday sauce (only on Sundays) from a recipe from the owner’s parents in Abruzzi, then ladles out a generous portion served with just-baked bread.

Start your Siesta Key a.m. right by hitting up Meaney's Mini Donuts, a small bamboo shack that fries up silver dollar-sized doughnuts right before your eyes. Flavorings include chocolate, peanut butter cup and apple pie, but right now we're treasuring the Key lime variety. A half-dozen Key lime mini-'nuts ($3.75) come stabbed with a thin wooden spear and drenched in bright green frosting. Steaming hot, crispy and sweet—an unbeatable way to wake up.

On the elegant charcuterie board at Pomona ($30; serves two), choice offerings include Lyon and Merguez sausage, duck confit rillette, pork belly with a mayonnaise-style cold egg sauce, house-pickled vegetables and crusty bread.  Are we in France yet?

Don't leave Oasis Cafe & Bakery without a slice of upside-down pumpkin-cranberry cake. It's incredibly moist, and the sweetness of the cake is offset by the tart cranberries. Take our word for it: this one's going to be a favorite throughout the holiday season.
