A Glimpse of Sarasota From the Air in 1923

Here's a chance to look back on the changes that this city has experienced over the past century.

A 1923 postcard from Florida Memory, State Library and Archives of Florida.

As of 2023, this postcard will have been printed a century ago. It offers us a chance to not only look back at the past year, as we party around downtown Sarasota's Pineapple Drop and enjoy the fireworks, but also to look at the changes that have taken place over the past 100 years here in Sarasota.

Gone are the many orange groves; here to stay are the roundabouts. Saved this year was the 151-year-old Fogarty house in Bradenton—but new builds dominated the skyline, too. What will the next 100 years look like here?
