After a year off due to the pandemic, and last year's smaller celebration, Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe returned to the Michael's On East ballroom for its annual April Fools Fete. Enjoying a country-Western vibe, guests dined on chicken, ribs, Mexican corn and apple pie a la mode, and were entertained by students from WBTT's Stage of Discovery program along with seasoned troupe performers. The evening turned into a lovefest of sorts as former WBTT CEO Christine Jennings finally received her wish of having that country sound applied to the performances, which meant plenty of music by such stars as Willie Nelson, Crystal Gayle, and yes, even Lil Nas X, whose "Old Town Road," delivered by Derric Gobourne Jr., closed out the show with style.
