Flooding on Siesta Key

Update, Sept. 30:

Emergency access has been restored for the following road segments in Sarasota County:

  • Casey Key Road between Albee Road and Blackburn Point Road.
  • Manasota Key Road for all residents between the Charlotte County line and Manasota Beach Road. There is still no through access in the area of Blind Pass Beach due to the road washout in that area; however, residents on each end can receive emergency vehicle access.
  • Areas of North Casey Key Road—north of the 200 block of North Casey Key Road—do not have direct emergency access from the roadway. Hurricane Helene washed out several portions of North Casey Key Road between the 200 and 900 block.  While this is a major impact, Sarasota County has a contractor actively working on restoring emergency access, which is expected to occur within the next two weeks.  Emergency response for affected residents is being provided by EMS Marine Rescue, in addition to Nokomis Fire, where possible.

Update, Sept. 29: Resident access to the Town of Longboat Key is now allowed but only from the south end of the island at New Pass Bridge. All must present identification at the checkpoint to enter. A curfew will however be in effect from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and re-entry will not be granted after 7 p.m.

The John Ringling Causeway is open to Bird Key residents with ID; the north and south entrances to Siesta Key and St. Armands Circle are open only to residents or business owners with ID. All are advised however to stay off the barrier islands. Holmes Beach, Anna Maria Island and South Lido Beach are closed.

Due to the effects of Hurricane Helene, multiple roads remain closed due to flooding throughout both Sarasota and Manatee counties.

Water has not yet receded, and flooding is still in effect, along with debris, fallen trees and power lines. If you must go out, please exercise extreme caution.

Here are the latest closures.
