Goat Yoga Is Still a Thing, and It's Still Super Fun

Goat Yoga SRQ offers weekly classes at Fruitville Grove.

The popularity of goat yoga may have peaked some years ago, but there are still plenty of farms around the country that invite yogis to hit some poses with their furry friends, including one in Sarasota: Fruitville Grove. The farmstand hosts beginner-friendly classes from Goat Yoga SRQ at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday mornings. No experience is necessary. Just bring your own mat.

The classes are similar to any other yoga class, where you follow along to the rhythm of the instructor's flow. Goats roam freely around the space, and will at times jump onto your back, balance on your legs and more. They are quite the acrobats.

All the goats live at Fruitville Grove and are cared for by the staff and farmers. They are visited by people every weekend, when customers shop the produce stand and take a stroll through the stables.

There are many benefits of yoga, but there's an added layer of therapeutic response that occurs when practicing with animals. You are bound to laugh, and, according to the Mayo Clinic, laughter can stimulate many organs, soothe tension and decrease your heart rate and blood pressure.

Goat Yoga SRQ also hosts private events. (Inquire on their Facebook page.) They've also brought goats to college campuses like University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee to help students relieve stress during exam season.

The first class of the spring season starts at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 12. Classes cost $30. Click here to register or email [email protected].
