Are you looking to get creative with your workout routine? You may need a little nudge from fellow fitness junkies, or, you may be seasoned in the art of putting yourself out there in fitness class and simply need more to join. Either way, the website Meetup has some great Sarasota groups you can join for free—or little cost per year and session.

From dancing and kayaking to running and tennis, here are some popular groups to choose from. Happy sweating!

SRQ Ballers

Dig your toes into the sand and get ready to volley. SRQ Ballers is a free beach volleyball group that meets at Bee Ridge Park on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 6:30 p.m. The group is free and for all levels of experience. So whether you're an Olympic level star or your only experience is staring at an old volleyball (à la Wilson from Castaway) in the corner of your closet, this group is for you.

Sarasota Walkers

The Sarasota Walkers is the largest walking meetup group in Sarasota. With more than 3,000 members, there are plenty of friends to meet and walks to try. Try Thursday night walks over the Ringling Bridge, Monday night walks at Nathan Benderson Park or Tuesday nights in Venice Esplanade and North Jetty. Walk at your own pace, but beware, they've got some serious power walkers!

Sarasota Golf Lessons

Improve your swing with certified PGA instructor Brad Myers at this weekly group held at Heritage Harbour Golf Club. Golfers of any age can attend for $25 per person. Golf balls are included. The next event is Saturday, Jan. 29 at 12:30 p.m., where Myers will teach you how to hit a driver in the middle of the clubface.

Blister Sisters Sarasota

Want to get fit with other encouraging, empowering ladies? The Blister Sisters are here for you. Events include easy-going walks at Ashton Trailhead (part of the Legacy Trail), yoga and group exercise classes at Nathan Benderson Park. The sisters even meet up for happy hours once a month, if you need a little liquid courage to get to the next workout.

Kayak Explorers and More

This group is all about exploring! Hike, bike or kayak with the group's 300 members along the beautiful Gulf coast. All West Coast Floridians are welcome, but many members are located in Sarasota-Manatee. Beside a $10 annual fee for kayak rentals and group upkeep, new, free events are added daily. The next event is biking in Sanibel and Captiva Islands on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 9:30 a.m.

Sarasota Bachata Dance Group

Lace up your dancing shoes and prepare to get spicy. The Sarasota Bachata Dance Group teaches the basics of this classic Dominican Republican dance that is practiced worldwide. Classes cost $20 per person and take place Wednesday and Thursday nights at Allegro Dance Academy on Whitfield Ave. From slow and sultry to fast and bouncy, you will learn everything you need to know to tear up the dance floor.

Tennis of Sarasota

Sarasota and Bradenton are full of tennis courts, but sometimes, it can be hard to find a practice partner. This is where the Tennis of Sarasota group comes in. The recreational league meets at Arlington Park courts on Mondays at 5 p.m. and Saturdays at 8:45 a.m. For $10 per year, you can practice with others, learn new skills and break a sweat.
