Voting ends in the Democratic state House primary race between Margaret Good and Ruta Jouniari on Tuesday, Dec. 5, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The winner of the race will then face Republican James Buchanan and Libertarian Alison Foxall during the general election, which ends Feb. 13. Buchanan's campaign manager told the Sarasota Herald-Tribune last month that Buchanan will not participate in any public candidate forums. A Sarasota Tiger Bay Club forum that was set to feature Buchanan, Foxall and the winner of the Democratic primary had been scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 7. That event will now just include either Good or Jouniari and Foxall. The lunchtime forum runs 11:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m. at Michael's on East, 1212 S. East Ave., Sarasota. Tickets are $25 for Tiger Bay members, $30 for guests.

The special election was called because of the resignation of former state Rep. Alex Miller, R-Sarasota, who quit after serving less than a year in office.
