The Sarasota Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, which is owned and operated by Sarasota Memorial Health Care System, recently received a five-star rating from the federal government's Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The ranking was released just two weeks after the hospital itself was awarded five stars by the agency. The ratings are designed to help families compare 16,000 nursing homes nationwide by rating hospitals on a number of quality of care indicators. This year’s review looked at successful discharges, emergency visits and re-hospitalizations, in addition to state-conducted health inspections, how much time nurses spend with residents and the quality of medical care.
