Sarasota County and Aria Energy officials celebrate the grand opening of the Landfill Gas to Energy facility

Sarasota County's Landfill Gas to Energy Facility was recently named "Project of the Year" by the Suncoast branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers. The result of a public-private partnership between the county and Landfill Energy Systems Florida LLC (Aria Energy), the project produces renewable energy by capturing and processing methane gas generated at the landfill. Aria Energy designed, built, owns and operates the facility at Sarasota County's Central County Solid Waste Disposal Complex, located at 4000 Knights Trail Road, Nokomis. The renewable energy produced at the facility is being sold to Jacksonville Electricity Authority, supplying electricity to approximately 2,800 homes.
