Mosaic recently purchased phosphate and potash assets and other business interests from the Brazilian mining company Vale for $2.5 billion. Upon completion of the transaction, Mosaic will acquire assets in Brazil, Peru and Canada. With the move, Mosaic expects to become the leading fertilizer production and distribution company in Brazil, one of the world's biggest agricultural markets. Mosaic mines phosphate rock from nearly 200,000 acres of land in central Florida and mines potash from four mines in North America, primarily in Saskatchewan.
