Cannons Marina Acquired by Ingman Marine

Longboat Key's Cannons Marina announced last week that it has been acquired by Ingman Marine. Cannons Marina will be Ingman Marine's fourth location.

The North Port City Commission has selected Michael Fuino to serve as the city attorney following a nationwide search. The City of North Port also recently named Irina Kukharenko its new finance director.

Gov. Ron DeSantis recently announced the appointment of Jennifer Infanti and the reappointment of Taylor Collins, Michael Fuller and Mark Goodson to the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota District board of trustees.

The Sarasota Ballet recently named Michelle Butler as deputy executive director.

The Sarasota Bay Estuary Program has announced that Dr. Ryan Gandy will take over as executive director, effective Nov. 17, 2025, replacing current executive director Dr. Dave Tomasko.

The National Association of School Superintendents has recognized Sarasota County Schools superintendent Terry Connor as the recipient of the 2025 Instruction Award. 

 The Florida Bankers Association has named Roland “Kelly” Caldwell, Jr., CEO and president of Caldwell Trust Company, its 2025 Trust Banker of the Year.

Gulf Coast Community Foundation recently announced the appointment of Elizabeth Welch as director of professional advisor relationships

Sarasota Memorial Health Care System was recently recognized in Forbes’ inaugural list of America’s Best Employers for Healthcare Professionals. Additionally, Sarasota Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center's was recognized among “America’s Best Nursing Homes 2026” in national ratings released by Newsweek.

The Rev. Charleston Wilson, rector of Church of the Redeemer in downtown Sarasota, was recently appointed by the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, the Most Rev. Sean Rowe, as a member of the board of trustees of the American Friends of the Anglican Centre in Rome, Italy.

State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota has promoted Dr. Kimberly Bastin to dean of academic affairs. Bastin oversees the health professions, business and technology, criminal justice, fire science and paralegal/legal assisting departments.

Fitch Ratings and S&P Global Ratings recently affirmed “AA+” ratings for Sarasota County’s utility system revenue and refunding bonds. Additionally, Moody’s Ratings affirmed its county-wide “Aaa” rating (referred to as a GO or Issuer Credit Rating, and comparable to the Fitch or S&P AAA rating). 

The Consortium of Florida Education Foundations recently recognized Education Foundation of Sarasota County's president and CEO Jennifer Vigne with the Jim McKenzie Consortium Champion Award.

The Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation has announced the educators who are the recipients of its fall 2025 Ripple Effect Teacher Award. They are Joe Brunetti (English Language Arts teacher, Suncoast Polytechnical High School); Allison Cohen, math teacher and department chair, Booker Middle School); Olga Hernandez-Cardel (ESOL liaison, Tuttle Elementary School); Khea Knight (college and career director, Booker High School);  and David Verdoni (performing arts department chair and Theory of Knowledge teacher, Riverview High School).

Visit Sarasota County recently added three new members to its board of directors: Cindy Moore, regional director of sales at Lodgco Hospitality; Mark Sherwin, general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota; and Kim Farrell, COO at Fox Lea Farm.
