From the tippy-top of Manatee County to the southern end of Sarasota County, one thing is clear: beauty is everywhere in our region.

And in its latest list of "Most Breathtaking Towns in Florida," World Atlas affirms it, highlighting Anna Maria Island and Venice as can't-miss destinations.

The site—which was founded in 1994 by a cartographer and his wife—covers geography, demography, sociology, the environment, economics, politics and travel, serving as a resource for students and educators. 

In its "Most Breathtaking Towns" ranking, Anna Maria was called out for its sugar-sand beaches, Old Florida vibes and marine life, as well as activities like Shiny Fish Emporium's option to paint your own sand dollar offering and Rod & Reel Pier's seafood-with-a-side-of-history offerings.

Venice, meanwhile, was lauded for its excellent shark tooth hunting, fishing pier and historic downtown, which was platted by John Nolan in 1925 and is still lauded for its wide roads, large public spaces and interconnected pocket parks. 

The other Florida towns on World Atlas' list are Fernandina Beach, St. Augustine, Islamorada, Naples, Winter Park, Tarpon Springs, Captiva and Crystal River. All worthy—but Venice and Anna Maria will always be our favorites.
