Soar high above Sarasota's beautiful coastline in an open cockpit biplane with Sarasota Biplane Adventures. Described as a "convertible in the sky," the two-passenger 1989 Waco Classic YMF-5C will be flown by tour pilots who will also share facts about what you're seeing below. With three different tour paths to choose from, and a variety of tour lengths, you are sure to find the perfect opportunity to see the city from a bird's eye view.

Where

1234 Clyde Jones Road, Sarasota

When

Tours are available daily with reservations required. The "Gulf Tour" takes 25 to 30 minutes and travels 30 miles over Sarasota Bay and nearby beaches. The "Beach Tour" lasts 40 minutes and journeys 50 miles over Lido, Siesta and Longboat Keys. The "Grand Sarasota" tour flies over all the most popular sights, and is customizable to your desires. It lasts a full hour and goes for about 75 miles. The costs range from $239.99 to $469.99. Book a tour online or call (941) 320-5038.

What to Bring

Sarasota Biplane Adventures recommends you bring a camera or your phone, so you can take pictures from the air. Video packages are also available, if you want the tour captured by a professional. Wear clothes that keep you cool, since the passenger seat receives some heat from the engine. Be sure to wear sunglasses so you can see the sights.

What to Expect

Once you arrive at the departure spot, which is the Rectrix aviation facility at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, you will be greeted by your tour pilot. Before taking off, the pilot will teach you about air safety and go over the flight path. Then you will strap into your seats and receive a helmet and headset to communicate with the pilot while in the air.

As you are soaring through the air, expect to feel a strong wind as the cockpit is open. Hold tightly to your camera as you snap photos and take in the scenery. You may even see some marine wildlife as you are flying over water. Once you have landed, there will be a photo opportunity with the plane and pilot.
