The local contractor Brilliant Harvest recently completed installation of a solar photovoltaic array on the New College of Florida campus. The array is made up of panels manufactured in Florida by SolarTech Universal. The project included an intelligent inverter system to analyze performance and output and ensure maximum energy harvest. The energy production of 18,000 kilowatt hours per year will offset consumption in the school's new Heiser Natural Sciences Building. The funds for the project came from the New College Green Fee, a small fee paid by each student that provides about $28,000 each year for sustainable projects on campus. The college's Council for Green Affairs, part of New College’s student government, then allocates funds for various green projects at the beginning of every spring semester.
